022 Garden Bench: Now you can relax in style
Garden Bench: Relaxation Plus
This garden bench (once constructed) provides a comfortable place to sit and relax in your garden. The gently curve in the seat and comfortable backrest make a great place to take a break. From your hard work in the shop of course.
As with any outdoor project wood selection is very important. Mahogany would be the best choice, however unless you won the lottery or have unlimited funds you might want consider alternatives. I would suggest you take a look at Cedar or Meranti (inexpensive alternative to mahogany) as a second option.
This bench is constructed like a piece of fine furniture. With the exception of the woodscrews.
The major mortise and tenon joints are secured with outdoor wood screws which insures the bench will last for years to come. Unlike some seating projects there are no angled tenons in this one. Everything is kept simple to make this an easier build. The bottom stretcher is dovetailed in for strength and appearance. The back slats are all secured with mortise and tenon or faux M&T whichever your prefer. Sit back, relax and enjoy your new garden bench.
Finish this project in the spring so you can enjoy your favorite book, while lounging on your new garden bench in the summer.
