067 The Armoire: Super storage idea
The armoire will help if you’re short on closet space? Live in a Century home? This may be the most useful project you have built. This cabinet not only provides you with an area to hang your clothes, there are also 4 shelf areas and a large drawer in the bottom section. The bottom drawer is designed to appear as two drawers but it is really just one.
Whether you follow the plan exactly or make your own personal modifications to suit your needs it will be a fun and exciting build.
Even if your home is equipped with all of the closets you require, having this cabinet in the basement or bedroom will provides a great place to store off season clothes or that favorite outfit that you know will come back into style someday.
The armoire is constructed using both veneer plywood and solid wood for any exposed detail. The basic construction is frame and panel with mortise and tenon joinery. The drawer is designed with a pinned ½ dovetail joint to attach the drawer front.
One of the shelf areas could easily be left out. Then you could add another clothes rod if its hanging space you’re looking for or vise versa. The tapered legs and the corbels on top add a nice design element to the overall armoire.
I know that anyone that is short on space will appreciate this project.
Have fun! Work safely and always use you machine guards and personal protective equipment.
