Special Picture Frame
This three part picture frame came about out of necessity. A friend of mine was retiring as a woodworking night school teacher, so we wanted to give him something special.
One member of his class contacted Roy Underhill who wrote a great poem just for him, so we thought we should frame it in style.
The Frame consists of three main parts, the outer and inner layers were made from Brazilian Mahogany and the middle portion was Zebra wood. Every part has to be molded and matched to the next layer. For reinforcement I added mitered splines (Jig plan included) on each corner with the contrasting wood.
As a small bonus I have included the PDF plan to make a miter slot jig for use on the tablesaw which will certainly strengthen the weak miters in a picture frame.
It is more challenging to build than you might think, have fun!
