King Size Headboard
This headboard plan started out as a request from a visitor to the site. I have a slide-show on the website showing a few of the projects I have built over the years. Bonnie really liked the clean simple lines of this headboard and so I have re-created a plan to suit her needs.
When it was originally build (about 20 years ago) I had no idea how joinery worked or what it should look like. The original was clunky and held together with wood screws that were hidden by plugs. I have learned a few things over the years and my quality of work has improved greatly according to my customers :).
The new design uses pinned mortise and tenon joinery for the main components and faux mortise and tenon for the vertical slats to avoid having to make 28 extra mortises. As you will see the slats still have the appearance of M & T joinery when complete. This is a very simple technique of using small blocks of wood that fit in the dado to give you the appearance of a dedicated mortise
The headboard has measurements for a king size bed however it can be easily adapted to suit any size of bed frame. Have fun!
