146 Pedestal Table: Dine in Elegance!
The Pedestal Table
When I first saw this pedestal table I loved the look of the flowing lines and the amount of people you could sit around it. No one has a table leg in front of them while sitting at the table that they have to contend with or bang their knees on.
However with a table constructed in this fashion it must be incredibly strong as everything is balancing on the center column.
The length of the feet and the upper cross rails must be made accurately to distribute the weight of the top or when Uncle Joe leans or pounds on the table. The vertical columns are seated in large mortises and have pins running through the mortise and tenon joint for added strength. The vertical column are also connected with splines so everything locks together.
There are actually very few pieces involved in the construction of this pedestal table but they are very substantial and are constructed and joined together to provide all kinds of strength. I have included the curve templates for your convenience. Have Fun!
