033 Sliding Bookends
These sliding bookends are a basic weekend project that is handy in any room in the home. I actually use one of these book holders in the shop for my reference books. A decorative useful project.
To adjust this capacity of this project just by change the length of the base. Of course if you go crazy long, you will have to add some center support to the base. The end of the sliding book rack move on linear (sliding) dovetails. The joinery will have to be a relaxed fit with fairly loose tolerance as sliding dovetails tend to bind when having to travel very far. However a little wax goes a long way in helping with the movement issue.
Some simple machining a couple of matching dovetails and a little edge detail and you are ready to go. The last one of these I built out of walnut however any material will do.
