Torsion Box Table
When I built this torsion box assembly table for my shop, I wanted an table that would serve many purposes. The table was built so I could have an area that I knew was flat to give me a place to assemble projects. It is difficult to produce square projects if you don’t have a flat reference surface
However because of room constraints the table had to serve many functions. So I built it 1/8” lower than my tablesaw so it could be used as an outfeed table. I also added an inexpensive 10” quick release vise and put dog holes in the top so it serves as a workbench when required.
The assembly table has a bank of drawers in the middle section and cupboard space with shelves on each each. You can never have enough storage. The bottom drawer is large enough to store my routers and accessories.
The table is constructed out of shop grade materials consisting mainly of spruce, plywood and MDF. The only hardwood used was for the doors and drawers and face frame, the vise face and decorative trim around the torsion box top. You may choose to cover the laminated spruce legs just for appearance sake. Whatever you decide that you require a great usable space, the table will be a great addition to your shop.
