Unique Cremation Urns

Unique Cremation Urns

Recently I have had a request to create a series of unique cremation urns. Not a unique cremation urnI thought that many of you may be interested in building them as well for your local funeral service providers.

Although these small shapes were designed for a specific purpose the boxes would serve many purposes and look great on display or used as storage boxes or candy dispensers. You are only limited by your imagination.

The only restriction I could find in my district was the overall volume of the container. The urn must be one (1) cubic inch of space per pound of body weight. Be sure to check with your local memorial service providers to verify the urns don’t need to meet any additional standards.

Traditional Urns shown to the left.

There will be several different styles of urns listed below as I complete each of the plans. In addition there will be some more conventional style urns that can be quickly produced. These will help to complete your line-up of products.

Here are the first three (3) in the series that I have completed.

Not your traditional Urns …..

Cowboy or Cowgirl Urn #155

Cowboy Urn

This old western style urn reminds me of boot hill. It was designed to resemble an coffin used by the early cowboys, just a miniature version.

Cowboy or Cowgirl Cremation Urn

An urn built with these specifications has a volume of 145 inch3 or 2,376 cm3 which equals a body weight of up to 145 lbs or 66 Kg. Adjust your build accordingly. For example reducing the height by 1” would equal 104 inch 3

Barrel Urn #156

BarrelThis barrel is part of the unique cremation urn project series.

As this story goes …. a gentleman that passed away recently had always wanted to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel. As per his wishes the family requested this design after his passing. Whether they followed through with his journey is unknown.

The size of urns are based on the body weight of the individual. You require one (1) cubic inch of space for each pound of body weight.  To calculate the volume of a barrel use this formula.

V = π r2 (In this case the volume would hold 211 lbs.)

This was built for a special circumstance, however the barrel itself is a challenge to make. The project would be a great conversation piece on a bar or for storing your favorite treats. You could make the top removable and possibly use a cork as the handle. …… Just thinking out loud!

Birdhouse Cremation Urn #157

double birdhouse Urn

Double Decker Birdhouse and Urn

Another in the series of unique cremation urns

If you know a nature lover that wants to spend their final resting days where the individual was always the happiest. This combination birdhouse and Urn might be just what you’re looking for.

Inside are two separate areas that are bird houses. Then in the rear is a sealed compartment for the ashes.

Because birdhouses have to be cleaned out after every season there are access doors on the opposite side for easy cleaning.

I would recommend a good outdoor wood like cedar or redwood. These have natural characteristics that stand up to the elements.
